This summer, we're looking for up to 40 experienced computer science teachers to join us as Summer Instructors. Summer instructors will deepen their own coding and teaching skills as they co-teach web or iOS development courses.  As an Upperline Summer Instructor, you will:

  1. Deepen your coding knowledge: You’ll receive online work and mentorship in preparation for your summer bootcamp. Topics will include HTML, CSS, Ruby, Javascript, Swift, and more. (This online work will be adapted based on your existing comfort with our content.)

  2. Teach Code: you’ll work for 4, 6, or 8 weeks teaching Upperline’s Summer Classes in New York City, while getting support and feedback from master instructors.

  3. Empower students: you collaborate with another Upperline instructor to create a strong community of empowerment where every student feels welcome, valued, challenged, and supported.

 

Instructors will earn a stipend starting at $7,000 for one week of training and six weeks of teaching in our summer programs, in addition to hourly pay for learning to code. Additional compensation is available commensurate with experience and specific requirements of the instructional role.

Who Are We Looking for?

Upperline instructors love and respect the craft of teaching. They are eager to step outside their comfort zones to refine their own teaching, deepen their coding knowledge, and help other teachers do the same. These teachers generally have:

  • At least 1 year of experience teaching with Upperline OR 1 year of experience teaching computer science in another setting.

  • Knowledge of at least one of Upperline’s curricular foci (Ruby, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Swift), OR knowledge of a comparable language and a commitment to learning our curriculum.

  • A mindset that is highly reflective, and extremely receptive to feedback.

  • A strong belief in the capabilities of all students.

  • Developed teaching pedagogy with a focus on student empowerment and investment.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • An ability to collaborate productively with other teachers in a co-teaching model.
