Teach With Us
As demand for computer science and programming skills surges in the United States, our supply of candidates with these skills have not kept pace. There are currently over half a million open computing jobs nationwide, and the gap is continuing to increase as all fields - including medicine, law, and business - require a more technically adept workforce. Among the largest bottlenecks to closing the skills gap is the lack of highly-trained and motivated K-12 Computer Science teachers. Upperline School of Code aims to narrow the gap by training up to 40 new computer science teachers this year, as part of its Summer Teaching Fellowship.
What is a Summer Teaching Fellow?
This summer, up to 40 teachers will receive paid in-depth computer science training and support as they gain the technical and pedagogical skills to teach an introductory high school computer science course. We believe that the best way to learn a subject is to teach it - that’s why we’ve structured the fellowship into three steps:
- Learn to Code: Teachers will receive online work and mentorship in preparation for their summer bootcamp.
- Learn to Teach Code: Spend one week with teachers learning the pedagogy of computer science education.
- Teach Code: Spend 4, 6 or 8 weeks getting support and feedback from master instructors as you help teach Upperline’s Summer Classes in New York City.
Upperline Fellows will learn a variety of professional software development skills that they will be able to bring back to their schools after the summer. Fellows will earn a stipend of up to $6300 for seven weeks of training and work in our summer programs.
